There are 3 types of prequalification - Prime, Subcontractor/MEP, Safety.
Subcontractor Prequalification is required for all first-tier MEP contractors holding an A, B, C-4, C-7, C-10, C-16, C-20, C-34, C-36, C-38, C-42, C-43 or C-46 license classification.
Reminder: Contractors must be Prequalified by the District at least five (5) business days prior to the date of bid for the Project. If submitting an application less than 30 days prior to the bid date, email the Prequalification Unit with the project name and bid date.

All bidders shall have California Contractor's License at the time of submission of the bid, the appropriate license(s) in full force and effect for the work to be performed under the contract.
General Nature of District's Construction Projects
The District's Facilities Services Division puts out to bid construction projects that generally divide into two categories: new construction projects and (existing) facilities projects. Generally speaking, new construction projects include the construction of new buildings, schools, primary care centers, additions to existing school sites and other new structures. Projects for existing school facilities generally include the alteration, renovation, demolition, repair, improvement, upgrading, modernization, rehabilitation and/or reconstruction of existing school and/or school support facilities and systems.
Intent of District's Prequalification Programs
It is the intent of the District to do business with quality contractors by identifying such contractors through a uniform system of rating bidders to obtain the best quality construction for the lowest price practicable under the circumstances. The District's prequalification programs are adopted pursuant to Public Contract Code Section 20111.5, 20111.6 and 20919.4.

- Formal/Prime Contractor Prequalification - Required to bid on formal contracts, master JOC contracts, Best Value, and 17406. (Applications submitted as Prime applies for all categories)
- Subcontractor Prequalification - Required for all first-tier MEP contractor holding a A, B, C-4, C-7, C-10, C-16, C-20, C-34, C-36, C-38, C-42, C-43 or C-46 license classifications.
- Safety Prequalification - Required to bid on informal contracts and other projects for which safety prequalification is required.
